Function / Content

This series consists of an single student register that records information about teachers and students at the first school in the township of Stuart, (later named Alice Springs), and also known as 'The Bungalow school'. Included are date of admission, gender, date of birth, religion, name of student, occupation and residential address of parents or guardian, examination information and remarks. The remarks include information about the date of leaving and the school to which student transferred. The beginning of the register records names of teachers and dates commenced and ceased. The register includes entries for Ida Standley, first teacher in Alice Springs, as well as names of children who were transferred to Jay's [Jay] Creek in 1929. Also recorded are statistics such as annual returns, total number of children in attendance, number of days of attendance, days school was open. An alphabetical listing by surname letter including student number is located at the beginning of the register. The series was in the custody of the National Trust of Australia NT (McDouall Stuart Branch) from approximately 1991 until they were transferred to the NTAS in 2017.
